...but gorgeous and inspiring. Warbirds can't fly without spare parts and the Reno racers were using them all up!! So, in the early 90's Bob Pond (wax magnate) decided to fund a new modern high-tech plane to beat the warbirds and drive them out of the game before they jeopardized the other warbird's ability to remain flyable. Burt Rutan's business built it. It was ill-fated but oh my god the noise and such a sci-fi plane to watch.

Doug [Demuro] gave a great writeup on why the H2 isn't a classic and as much as I like to argue with him, he's right; The H2 makes you look like a douche. Thing is, my full time 4wd DD gets about the same mileage (maybe a little better) and is as annoying to the Greenpeace as any H2, but its pretty well loved or ignored by the bulk of people. Why? Well without going into it too much I'm going to say just this one thing: GM doesn't know how to design cars.

October 17th, mark[ed] the 100th anniversary of the first ever airplane flight over Wichita, KS. Some of you may be saying 'so what?', but I promise this is significant. You see, the pilot of that first flight was none other than Clyde Vernon Cessna, a man whose last name should sound familiar to you.

For those who have heard it, "Red Barchetta", off Rush's 1981 album Moving Pictures, is probably one of the best and most iconic songs about driving and being a motoring enthusiast. The song is about a young man living in a dystopian future where cars have been outlawed. The young protagonist narrates a story of how he regularly sneaks outside the fences that surround his city to an abandoned farmhouse where his uncle has preserved a red barchetta sports car, despite the law. While the song is fairly well known, the short story that inspired it isn't…

Part of the A11 in Brandenburg has survived from the Nazi period and is still the original road surface built in 1936. Four kilometers, just past the intersection for Uckermark, on the route from Berlin to Poland may finally be history.

This, girls and boys, is the new Peugeot 308. I just had a short drive in one, and there is something i would like you to take note of. If you look at it, it's a pretty bland basic shape, a simple 5-door hatchback… However, if you look closely, there are details, interesting, intriguing details everywhere. It's not something that's stunning at first sight, but it doesn't get boring with time either. However, this isn't the major party trick here. Nor is the touch-screen-only center console, with even the climate controls included in the central tablet thingie. No, you should take note of this car, because it's light.

In the beginning, there was no light… In the late 1940s my wife's grandfather owned a 1929 Rolls Royce Phantom 1 Shooting Brake, much like the one in the image. He and seven friends arranged a trip to Austria to buy motorcycle parts. They set off from England and arrived in Austria in the evening. It was mid-winter so was dark. The place they were to buy the parts from was a castle atop a mountain. Wife's grandfather was driving and his cohorts were asleep when they arrived at the castle, having traversed a winding mountain road to reach it. Once at the castle they were greeted with surprise, and handed a medal. They were the first people ever to have driven up the castle's approach road in the dark.
